LUCKILY THERE WASN'T A CAR IN FRONT OF ME OR ANYONE GOING THROUGH THE INTERSECTION. I WAS NOT DRIVING VERY FAST AND TRIED TO STOP AT LIGHT, I WAS PUSHING THE BRAKE PEDAL AND IT JUST FELT LIKE IT WASN'T GRABBING AND I HAD IT PUSHED TO THE FLOOR AND THEN MY CAR MADE AN ACCELERATING SOUND LIKE I REVVED IT UP AND I WENT THROUGH THE INTERSECTION.

ALSO, IF I REMOVED MY FOOT QUICKLY FROM THE PEDAL AND WAITED A FEW SECONDS BEFORE PLACING MY FOOT ON THE BRAKE, THE CAR WOULD MAKE JERKY MOTIONS AND THE TACHOMETER (RPM) WOULD JUMP WILDLY. I DIDN'T KNOW IF THE PROBLEM WAS IN THE ACCELERATOR OR IN THE ELECTRICAL SYSTEM. I BROUGHT IT TO THE TWICE FOR THE PROBLEM BUT THEY COULDN'T FIND ANYTHING SHOWING UP ON THE DIAGNOSTIC COMPUTER CHECK THE FIRST TIME. THE SERVICE TECH DID HAVE TO RE-SET THE ORIGINAL SETTING ON SOMETHING AND HE TOLD ME TO BRING IT BACK IF THAT DIDN'T FIX IT. THE PROBLEM STILL EXISTED SO I BROUGHT IT BACK THE SECOND TIME AND THE TECH RODE WITH ME AND HE ALSO FELT WHAT I WAS EXPERIENCING. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING 5 MPH COMING TO A STOP WHILE HAVING HER FOOT ON THE BRAKE WHEN THE VEHICLE DIDN'T WANT TO STOP WHERE THE BRAKE PETAL WAS JUMPING UP AND DOWN LIKE IT WAS PUMPING ITSELF. THE CONTACT THEN PRESSED THE BRAKE FIRMLY TO CONTROL THE BRAKE BY PUMPING ITSELF. THIS HAS OCCURRED A TOTAL OF 6 TIMES. THE VEHICLE WAS THEN TAKEN INTO THE DEALER AND THEY STATED TO LEAVE THE VEHICLE AND THEY WILL DIAGNOSE IT. THE DEALER STATED THAT THEY WILL DO THE GAS PETAL REPAIR THE NEXT DAY AND THEN CHECK OUT THE BRAKE SYSTEM AS WELL. THERE WILL BE REPAIRS DONE TO THE VEHICLE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 9700 AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 9740.CV

THE REAR END OF THE VEHICLE BEGAN TO VIBRATE. THE WARNING INDICATOR LIGHT REMAINED ILLUMINATED UNTIL THE ENGINE WAS TURNED OFF. THE CONTACT WAS ABLE TO CONTINUE DRIVING NORMALLY. IN SEPTEMBER, I TOOK THE CAR IN FOR THE HYDRAULIC SERVICE BRAKE RECALL. THIS DID NOT FIX THE PROBLEM. ON DECEMBER 8 & 9 THE BRAKES WENT TO THE FLOOR TWICE WHEN I TRIED TO STOP AT STOP SIGNS. I ALMOST GOT KILLED AVOIDING OTHER CARS AT INTERSECTIONS. ONCE AGAIN, THE DEALERSHIP TRIED TO DUPLICATE THE SITUATION AND FOUND NOTHING WRONG WITH THE CAR. AT THIS POINT, I AM REQUIRED TO PLACE MY FOOT ON THE BRAKE TO CONTROL MY SPEEDS. THE DEALERSHIP HAS TAKEN MY CAR BACK TWICE AND CLAIMED TO HAVE FIXED IT TWICE BASED ON THE READS, BUT I HAVE HAD THE SAME PROBLEM. THE READS ON THE COMPUTER WILL SAY THAT IT IS AN ELECTRICAL MALFUNCTION... HOWEVER THEY CAN NOT IDENTIFY WHERE THE MALFUNCTION IS COMING FROM. WE HAVE NOTICED THAT EVEN AT SLOW SPEEDS IN PARKING LOTS THAT IF THE WHEELS ARE TURNED AND THE STEERING WHEEL MOVES BACK TO CENTER THE WHEELS WILL NOT STRAIGHTEN UP AND YOU HAVE THE TURN THE WHEEL IN THE OPPOSITE DIRECT TO CORRECT THE WHEELS. THE DEALERSHIP HAS PERFORMED AN ALIGNMENT AND THEY REPLACE THE STEERING RACK. THE ISSUE HAS NOT GONE AWAY AND THEY FOUND THAT TESTING THREE OTHER COROLLAS ON THE LOT ALL HAVE THE SAME EPS PROBLEM AND THEY ARE STUMPED. THEY HAVE FILED A TECH CASE WITH TOYOTA ABOUT THE EPS ISSUE. I HAVE ALSO OPENED A COMPLAINT TICKET WITH TOYOTA TMS IN CALIFORNIA 1-800-331-4331. THEY HAVE BEEN IN CONTACT WITH US AND A TOYOTA REPRESENTATIVE IS GOING TO INSPECT THE CAR NEXT WEEK. THE DANGER IS WHEN YOU ARE DISTRACTED, SUCH AS LOOKING IN THE REAR VIEW MIRROR, ADJUSTING THE REAR VIEW MIRROR, CHANGING A RADIO STATION, REACHING FOR SUN GLASSED, ETC. THEN THE CAR HEADS OUT OF THE LANE AS A RESULT OF A CONTINUED STEERING ADJUSTMENT. THE DEALERS AND MANUFACTURER CLAIM THAT THIS IS NORMAL BECAUSE OF THE NEW FEATURE, ELECTRONIC POWER STEERING. HOWEVER, THE 2010 COROLLA HAS ANOTHER STANDARD FEATURE (WHICH IS OPTIONAL FOR THE 2009): ELECTRONIC STABILITY CONTROL. THE DRIVER HAS TO MAKE A CONSTANT ADJUSTMENT IN STEERING THE AUTO TO PREVENT IT FROM CONSTANTLY VEERING LEFT OR RIGHT AS YOU DRIVE ON CITY STREETS OR MAJOR HIGHWAYS. I MET WITH THE FACTORY REP FROM TOYOTA AND HE STATES THAT THIS PROBLEM IS CREATED BY THE NEW DESIGN OF THEIR STEERING SYSTEM WITH 0% VARIANCE FOR ERROR. A MASTER TOYOTA MECHANIC CHECKED OUT THE AUTO AND ATTEMPTED TO MAKE ADJUSTMENT TO CORRECT, A CASE HAS BEEN ASSIGNED BY THEIR SERVICE DEPARTMENT STATING THAT THE STEERING IS VERY OVERSENSATIVE. A CASE HAS ALSO BEEN FILED WITH TOYOTA CUSTOMER SERVICE.
