Summary:
Since July 1988, ODI has received 12 complaints alleging fuel spillage from the fuel tank fill vent hose in 1994 through 1995 Mercury Villager and Nissan Quest vehicles. Nine of the reports were submitted in 1999. Several complaints allege leakage from cracked, split deteriorated, or rotted vent hoses. The subject vent hose is a short, shaped section of hose that is clamped to a pipe extending from the outboard (left) side of the fuel tank aft of the filler hose. Table 1 shows the vehicle volumes and ODI complaint inputs by make and model year. Figures 1 through 3 show the subect tank vent hose routing and fittings. Figures 4 through 6 show cracks in a tank vent hose from a complaint vehicle (1994 Mercury Villager).
