Summary:
ODI has received six reports involving 1995 Ford Contour and Mercury Mystique vehicles that allege the engine electronic cooling fan failed. Four of the reports indicate the fan caught on fire with resultant damage to the fan and wire harness and/or the harness connector. Another report incidated the 60 ampere fuse for the fan had "blown." The fuse was replaced by the dealer and no other defects were found. The next day there was smoke coming from the engine compartment . The vehicle was again taken to a Ford dealer who advised the owner that the fan was "bad," needed replacement, and the fan harness connector was melted as well. The remaining report alleges a problem with the fan motor that resulted in severe damage to the fan and wiring harness. This investigation has been opened to further study the issue.
